According to SAE J1962 and ISO 15031 standards OBDII diagnostic link connector (DLC) should be located in the passenger or driver's compartment in the area bounded by the driver's end of the instrument panel to 300 mm (~1 ft) beyond the vehicle centerline.
Connector should be attached to the instrument panel and easy to access from the driver's seat. The preferred location is between the steering column and the vehicle centerline.
Access to the vehicle connector shall not require any tools for the removal of an instrument panel cover, connector cover, or any barriers. The vehicle connector should be fastened and located as to permit a one-handed/blind insertion of the mating test equipment connector. Connecting any diagnostic tool to the connector should not affect normal engine operation. |
